Sports & Physical Education
Physical Education is vital in maintaining students' health, fitness and well-being. Sport and PE are used to improve mental health and well-being for all our students. The purpose of the PE curriculum and enrichment programme is to provide opportunity for high-quality teaching and learning; improving students' knowledge and ensuring lifelong participation and enjoyment in sport, physical activity and fitness.
“Ability is what you’re capable of doing. Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do at it”
What makes us special?
Our Sports Academy and PE Highly Able Programme provide opportunities for our elite athletes to excel in their field.
The Sports Academy
The Sports Academy has been set up to provide our young athletes with extra input above and beyond what they would receive from the core PE and enrichment programme that every student has access to. Students apply at the end of Year 9 and applications are judged on a number of criteria including:
- Attitude towards all learning but especially physical education
- Attendance to clubs available on the enrichment programme
- Suitability based on the sport/activity they take part in and, of course, their ability.
The PE Highly Able Programme
- Students are selected for the PE Highly Able Programme at the end of Year 7, with the programme running from Year 8-10.
- Students are identified if they are performing to a high standard in several sports/activities both inside and outside of College.
- Students on the PE Highly Able Programme attend workshops throughout the year and work towards achieving the HCC Sport and PE Heptathlon.
